“Streamline Biometric Process,” Says Delhi High Court

The Delhi High Court has directed the National Testing Agency (NTA) to ensure that the biometric verification process during future NEET-UG (National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test) examinations is properly organized and systematic.

A bench of Chief Justice D.Y. Upadhyaya and Justice Sachin Datta also instructed the NTA to set up a permanent grievance redressal committee to address candidates’ complaints.

The court emphasized that awarding extra marks due to delays in biometric verification would not be justified, thereby rejecting earlier directions that had allowed grace marks in such cases.

While upholding certain previous orders of a single bench related to streamlining the biometric process, the High Court clarified that the directive to award grace marks based on normalization formulas stands cancelled.

This ruling ensures that while biometric verification must be carried out in a smooth and timely manner, fairness in evaluation cannot be compromised by granting additional marks unrelated to merit.
