Uttar Pradesh Sets Ambitious Target of Becoming a $6 Trillion Economy by 2047
The Government of Uttar Pradesh has announced an ambitious plan to transform the state into a $6 trillion economy by the year 2047, marking a significant milestone in India's economic journey as the nation approaches 100 years of independence.
According to officials, a comprehensive roadmap is being prepared to achieve this target, which will involve coordinated efforts across all major sectors of the economy. The state's Planning Department is spearheading the initiative, which aims to accelerate industrial growth, attract large-scale investments, and create a robust infrastructure base.
Despite the scale of the target, the government is confident in its strategy, pointing to steady growth in recent years. Uttar Pradesh’s Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP), which was ₹13.29 lakh crore in the financial year 2016–17, is projected to cross ₹24 lakh crore by 2024–25. The state is witnessing rapid growth in investment, particularly in infrastructure, industrial corridors, expressways, and logistics parks, which are expected to further boost the economy.
It is noteworthy that by the end of the financial year 2025–26, the size of Uttar Pradesh’s economy is estimated to exceed ₹35 lakh crore. By 2029–30, the state aims to become a $1 trillion economy. This will serve as a crucial milestone on the path to achieving the $6 trillion goal by 2047.
The government’s plan also includes large-scale investments in key areas such as women’s empowerment, healthcare, industrial manufacturing, digital infrastructure, and economic connectivity. More than ₹4.5 lakh crore worth of investment proposals have already been received, particularly in expressways, logistics hubs, and industrial clusters, reflecting strong investor confidence.
A “Vision Document” is also being prepared to guide the state’s journey toward becoming a $6 trillion economy. The roadmap will clearly outline sector-specific strategies and measurable targets for different departments. The Planning Department will coordinate these efforts to ensure seamless execution and regular monitoring.
The Chief Secretary of Uttar Pradesh stated that the government is determined to make the state a trillion-dollar economy by 2029–30 and subsequently a $6 trillion powerhouse by 2047. The administration believes that accelerated investment and consistent policy reforms will play a crucial role in achieving this vision.
