Action Plan to Save Hindon River: Plantation Drive to Begin from July 1
In a significant move to protect the deteriorating condition of the Hindon River, the district administration of Ghaziabad has announced the launch of a special environmental campaign. According to District Magistrate Vivek Yadav, the “Hindon Bachao Abhiyan” will officially begin on July 1 and focus on both awareness and ecological restoration.
Under this campaign, saplings will be planted along an 8-kilometer stretch of the Hindon River to create a green buffer zone that can help reduce pollution and enhance biodiversity. The plantation drive will involve participation from school students, local NGOs, and community volunteers.
DM Yadav emphasized that the month of June will be dedicated to preparatory activities such as public outreach, identifying plantation zones, and organizing volunteers. A total of 20,000 saplings are proposed to be planted during the monsoon, covering critical riverbank areas that are currently polluted and encroached.
The administration has also appealed to the local population to stop dumping garbage and sewage into the river and to actively support the campaign by participating in river-cleaning and plantation efforts.
Key Highlights:
- Campaign Name: Hindon Bachao Abhiyan
- Launch Date: July 1, 2025
- Goal: To restore and greenify 8 km of the riverbank
- Target: Plant 20,000 saplings
