GST Disputes to be Resolved Quickly
Proposal to Open Five GST Tribunals in the State Submitted to Government
The state government has submitted a proposal to open five Goods and Services Tax (GST) tribunals in key districts of Uttar Pradesh to resolve disputes related to GST. These tribunals will be opened in Lucknow, Varanasi, Prayagraj, Agra, and Ghaziabad. With the establishment of these tribunals, traders will have an easier way to resolve disputes related to their GST taxes.
These tribunals will have a total of five members, including two judicial members and two members from the administration, with one additional member. The tribunals are expected to provide speedy resolution of tax disputes and will also serve as an important body for the adjudication of administrative and judicial matters related to GST.
Tribunals to Make Dispute Resolution Easier
The establishment of GST tribunals in the state is expected to streamline the process of dispute resolution for traders and businesses. These tribunals will focus on hearing cases related to GST disputes and the assessment of tax matters. After the GST law was implemented in 2017, a significant number of cases involving tax disputes have arisen, creating the need for dedicated judicial bodies to handle these issues.
Judicial Members to Be Appointed
The tribunal will be managed by both judicial and administrative members, who will oversee all cases brought forward for dispute resolution. The state government has also proposed the creation of benches in these five districts to ensure faster resolution of cases. Currently, traders in Uttar Pradesh do not have access to a dedicated tribunal, which has led to delays in resolving disputes.
The tribunals will handle cases related to the valuation of goods, input tax credits, penalties, and other GST-related matters. This initiative is expected to reduce the backlog of cases in courts and provide traders with an accessible platform for resolving their GST-related disputes.
