Mandalayukt Officers to Be Assigned Responsibility for River Rejuvenation: CM Yogi

In a high-level review meeting of the Namami Gange mission, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has instructed that specific Mandalayukt (Divisional Commissioners) be assigned direct responsibility for the rejuvenation of rivers across the state.

He emphasized that the revival of traditional and sacred rivers, especially in rural and semi-urban areas, must be undertaken with urgency and administrative clarity. CM Yogi directed that rivers that once shaped cultural, agricultural, and spiritual life must be restored to their natural flow and purity.

Key Directives Issued by the Chief Minister:

  • Divisional Commissioners (Mandalayukts) will be given specific responsibility for rejuvenation efforts of regional rivers.
  • Where roads were dug for pipeline laying, instructions were issued for immediate repair.
  • Orders were given to assess drinking water supply systems, particularly in Bundelkhand, Vindhya, and Purvanchal, and resolve all issues swiftly.
  • Special focus was placed on ensuring every household tap connections under the Har Ghar Nal Yojana function efficiently.
  • Monitoring committees are to be formed at the district and block level to ensure transparency and swift action.

Cultural and Environmental Restoration

CM Yogi highlighted that rivers like Gomti, Sai, Tamsa, Betwa, and Mandakini are not merely sources of water, but spiritual and cultural lifelines. Their revival should not be limited to technical water management but must include cultural activities like tree plantations, awareness campaigns, and public involvement.

CM's Appeal to Officers

CM Yogi appealed to the officials to engage actively in river-related activities and conduct regular inspections to monitor ongoing water-related works. Where needed, nodal officers will be appointed for enhanced monitoring and coordination.

This decision reflects the government’s commitment to holistic river management and integrates infrastructure development with cultural heritage revival under the Namami Gange initiative.
