Nationwide Awareness Campaign Against Single-Use Plastic Launched
Despite a ban on single-use plastic, its usage continues across the country. In a renewed effort to curb this environmental hazard, the Central Government has launched a nationwide awareness campaign titled “Ek Rashtra, Ek Mission” with support from the general public.
Ahead of World Environment Day, the Ministry of Forest and Environment has initiated this campaign to eliminate the use of single-use plastic. The initiative will focus on raising awareness and conducting cleanliness drives in public places such as beaches, parks, tourist sites, railway stations, and rural areas, especially along rivers and coastal regions.
It is important to note that the government had imposed a ban on single-use plastic starting July 1, 2022. However, its enforcement has remained a challenge.
Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav, in a recent social media post, announced that the campaign is officially named “Ek Nation, One Mission: End Plastic Pollution”. As part of this initiative, MyGov Live Quizzes, youth engagement activities, and cleanliness drives will be conducted nationwide to raise awareness and strengthen action against plastic use.
