Remarks on institutions can lower their morale: Dhankhar
Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar stated that institutions such as the Election Commission and investigative agencies face difficult circumstances while carrying out their responsibilities, and remarks made about them can lower their morale. The Vice President's statement came in the context of a Supreme Court judge's remarks after granting bail to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. The judge had said that investigations should be impartial and not be controlled like a "caged parrot" under the influence of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
Vice President Dhankhar, speaking at the inauguration of the Constitution Temple at Elphinstone Technical High School in Mumbai, said that the nation's institutions should not be subject to any influence that could weaken them. They work independently and freely under the law with proper regulation and balance. He emphasized that the ultimate goal of the government is to ensure that the common man receives all rights, leading to the overall growth and prosperity of India.
The Vice President added that institutions should be safeguarded and nurtured to uphold democratic values and constitutional ideals. Collaboration is needed to enhance their effectiveness. He warned that these sacred platforms—legislative, executive, and judiciary—should not be turned into arenas of inflammatory political debates, which could be damaging to institutions that serve the nation in challenging times. Although the Vice President acknowledged that institutional freedom is assured, he also expressed concern about the potential rise of controversy on this matter. He will be closely observing how the judiciary responds to this issue.
