Revised Estimate Approved for Kanwar Marg; Construction to Begin in October

111-km long road to be built at a cost of ₹627 crore, with 7-meter width

The long-awaited construction of the Kanwar Marg road has received approval under a revised project estimate. The Public Works Department (PWD) has cleared the proposal, paving the way for construction to commence from October 2025.

According to officials, the 111-kilometer road will be constructed at an estimated cost of ₹627 crore. The new stretch, designed to ease the annual Kanwar Yatra pilgrimage, will have a width of 7 meters and will cover Ghaziabad, Meerut, and Muzaffarnagar districts.

The alignment will largely follow canal banks, requiring careful planning to leave a buffer of 3 meters of land from the canal edge. PWD engineers confirmed that tenders will be floated soon, with work targeted for completion before the next Kanwar season in 2026.

District-wise allocation shows that Ghaziabad will get 12 kilometers, Meerut 42 kilometers, and Muzaffarnagar 57 kilometers of the project road. The improved infrastructure is expected to significantly reduce traffic congestion, enhance safety for devotees, and benefit local commuters year-round.

Officials emphasized that the project is part of broader efforts to modernize pilgrimage routes in Uttar Pradesh, combining religious significance with infrastructural development.
